Powerline work: component findings or corridor geometry?

These are different capture jobs. Choose the output before choosing the payload or combining them into one flight.

At a glance
  • Component evidence and corridor geometry are different jobs.
  • Use the utility’s asset identifiers throughout.
  • Test a short segment through the actual receiving tools.

Separate the two assignments

A component inspection asks what an identified asset looks like or whether it presents an apparent thermal anomaly. A corridor survey asks where surfaces and features sit in space. Combining their names under “powerline inspection” can conceal different sensors, processing and reviewers.

A maintenance team may need an asset-linked image and a follow-up task. A corridor analyst may need a referenced point cloud. Write the two deliverables as separate order and production requirements.

Choose the appropriate system

H30T is a thermal and visual payload choice. L3 is a LiDAR choice for a point-cloud workflow. On a Matrice 400 order, name the primary job and review the actual mount arrangement before selecting multiple payloads.

A repeatable remote visit is a separate deployment question. A Dock can support a maintained site, but that does not replace the processing and qualified review associated with either deliverable.

Make the record useful to the utility

Carry the utility’s asset identifier from the mission plan into the filename, finding record and final report. Include the date and viewing context so the next inspector can repeat the observation.

Before collecting a complete corridor, deliver a short representative segment. Ask the receiving team to locate a component finding or open the point-cloud export. Resolve naming, reference and format questions while the amount of data is still manageable.
